A person who falsely:

  • Claims to be an active-duty or reservist member of the military or national guard.

  • Claims to be a veteran.

  • Embellishes their current or former rank within the armed services.

  • Claims to have received a military award or decoration.

A veteran is an individual who was discharged or released from active duty.

Disambiguation: For the purpose of this code, 'veteran' includes all discharged former service members, including those who were dishonorably discharged, or are classified as disabled veterans, "recently separated" veterans, wartime veterans, campaign veterans, or protected veterans.
