[4] 24 - Wiretapping (Federal Charge)

It shall be illegal for any individual to secretly record any private conversations. Ranging from face-to-face conversation, telephone call, emails, text messages or any other form of “electronic communication.” The offence has to be committed multiple times for the charge of wiretapping to be a justified arrestable offence.

Example: Person A continuously records Person B at work while she is calling her boyfriend.

Federal Charge

Fine - $3500

Sentence - 250

Note: If the individual discloses they are recording, then this charge isn’t viable. Law enforcement must have a warrant signed by a judge, in order to secretly record individuals, for the said obtained evidence to be viable in court. This includes, hidden cameras, microphones, listening devices, bugging phones, recording devices, or any other form of intelligence gathering equipment.
